We all know that learning to race bicycles takes a combination of fitness, passion, skill and craft. Learning by doing, taking advice and feedback from those who have come before you will help develop your knowledge and confidence to line up for your first bike race – and many thereafter.
This is where you come in – we want to encourage new cyclists to try their hand at bike racing. In 2021 we developed a formal mentorship program that pairs up newer riders looking to learn to race with more experienced club members who’ve been racing for years.
This program supplements the club’s group ride program that allows recreational riders to learn group riding skills and etiquette while building fitness. The mentor/mentee pairing really means that new riders will have a friendly face when they show up to a ride, and someone to learn from throughout the season.

The Buffalo Bicycling Club will be supporting this program by sending weekly or bi-weekly emails to mentors and mentees with ideas for what to talk to your mentee about, some youtube videos, or skills topics for new riders. We want to help promote discussion and conversation about “all the stuff that is a mystery” to new riders.
