We are switching things up for 2025’s Base Building Challenge! In past years, we asked you to hit certain thresholds for hours during the month to be eligible for prizes plus the max volume challenge. However, this year, we are reflecting on what “base building” truly is– setting the aerobic foundation for the hard work to come during the racing season, not the be-all-end-all of hitting an arbitrary number of hours.
Start your base building right this January by riding for a chance to win prizes. Track your hours, and we’ll reward you for your hard work!
The Weekly Challenge:
For each hour you ride each week, you will earn 1 point towards the raffle for that week’s prizes. Up to a maximum of 15 hours per week will count towards the challenge. We’ll tally up all participants’ hours at the end of each week, give you 1 chance at the prize wheel per hour you ride, and put it in the online spin wheel for prizes at our February Club Meeting!
The importance here is to ride as many hours as YOU should be, not how many hours others are doing or an arbitrary number to hit for the challenge. We’re counting up to 15 hours per week for our most experienced athletes, but if that’s not your personal volume, you do you! You could win the weekly wheel spin with just one hour– you never know!
For 2024 BBC Members, if you you’ll be entered into a drawing for a BBC club jersey if you hit at least 25 hours for the month! Check them out here: https://www.buffalobicyclingclub.com/shop One male and one female winner will be chosen on the spin wheel at our February Club Meeting
How To Participate:
Your hours will be tallied automatically if you are a 2024 BBC member and your Strava account and rides are publicly visible (or visible to James). Check the weekly leaderboard to make sure you are on it! If you are a BBC member without Strava or have it private, please email your ride data to James Thompson at jamestho1589@gmail.com.
If you are not a BBC member, please join us! Email James Thompson at jamestho1589@gmail.com or comment on Facebook to let us know that you’d like your rides to count (if on Strava, we will follow you to get ride data).
The winners for each of the 5 weeks during the challenge and the monthly jersey contest will be drawn during the BBC’s February club meeting on Zoom.
Everyone can participate– you don’t need to be a BBC member to win gift cards, but you do need to be a 2024 BBC member to be eligible to win the BBC Jerseys. Outdoor hours and indoor trainer hours all count.
